9:39pm

And that is it.

Very impressive from Albion!

9:33pm

Teixeira made way for Hughes

9:29pm

Leeds’ reprieve did not last long. Teixeira was hacked down inches outside the box and LUALUA thumped the free-kick past a helpless Silvestri.

9:28pm

Albion were having to defend – but they could easily have gone two up with a classic counter attack. Bruno dealt with a Leeds cross by taking it down perfectly, bringng it out of defence and sliding a pass into Mackail-Smith who was pulling wide to the right.

The latter fed a clever pass inside to send Ince charging clean through but he dragged his shot just too wide of the advanced Silvestri and it kissed the outside of the post before going wide.

Leeds sent on Poleon for Sharp and Cook for Murphy before play resumed.

9:18pm

There is some dispute as to whether Tonge's effort was actually going on target or just wide!

Hard to see from here.

The away contingent in that attendance figure I gave you is 444 according to Darren Balkham, alias @suspolfootball

Ince is on for Holla

9:15pm

Byram was booked for a foul which halted a counter attack.

The right-back almost made amends by creating the equaliser. His cut back was diverted goalwards and past Stockdale by Tonge  – but Calderon cleared from just in front of the line.

It was Leeds' first on-target effort of the contest.

Att: 21,429

9:08pm

Now Leeds were stepping it up a gear. They forced a free-kick five yards outside the box, centrally placed, but Tonge drilled it into the wall.

9:04pm

Agustien needed attention after a midfield tussle and eventually made way for LuaLua.

Leeds were coming a little more into the game – as their increasingly impatient fans demanded – and a deep cross just eluded Murphy beyond the far post.

From a long ball forward, Mackail-Smith’s volley was held by Silvestri at his near post.

8:58pm

Murphy was booked for a foul early in the second period as Albion now defended the Kop end.

The Seagulls had yet to get their passing game going again in this half.

8:49pm

Leeds send on Ajose for Smith for the second half.

Here we go...

8:34pm

8:33pm

Boos ring out from most of Elland Road...

8:30pm

The one reservation about Albion's first-half performance to date is that they are only 1-0 up.

8:27pm

Albion deserved and arguably needed a second goal – and it should have come on 39 minutes.

They managed to confuse themselves around the edge of the box after creating a shooting chance.

Bruno retrieved the situation with a dragback and pass back out to the left and Chicksen’s pinpoint cross found Calderon unmarked at the far post – but his header was off target.

Then Teixeira sent a curler way, way wide after more good work by the revitalised Chicksen.

8:23pm

Holla was booked for taking Bianchi's legs away on halfway in the 36th minute. It looked a fair enough decision.

8:19pm

8:18pm

Great block by Holla on the edge of his own box after Sharp set up a shooting chance.

Then Leeds won a corner which got their fans going – but was cleared.

Super skill from Teixeira left Byram for dead and he got into the box, then showed tenacity to win the ball back when Leeds thought they had seen it out of play.

His efforts got the ball back to Mackail-Smith, whose hurried stab at a shot sent it across the six-yard box.

Leeds have just had their first shot, dragged well wide by Tonge.

8:12pm

Albion players have so many options when they get into the Leeds half. Agustien probably took the right one just then when he shot from 25 yards as defenders backed off.

But the execution was wrong and he dragged his effort wide.

I don’t know what Chicksen has done for the local community here in previous years – but he appears to have been granted the freedom of Elland Road!

He is being found in space at will whenever Albion get the ball on their left, which is our side of the pitch, and it is driving the home fans around us mad.

8:05pm

8:05pm

So lots of good pass-and-move from what, despite the orange shirts, looks more like an Albion side tonight SO FAR.

Holla also showed the muscular side of his game with a crunching, but clean, tackle in midfield.

8:01pm

Albion have so much movement they are hard to pigeon hole in a formation but it's along these lines...

                       STOCKDALE

CALDERON    GREER    DUNK    CHICKSEN

                 HOLLA      F-CASKEY

       BRUNO       AGUSTIEN      TEIXEIRA

                        M-SMITH

7:56pm

I didn’t have time to record a good advantage played by ref Adcock in the run-up to the goal after a foul on Mackail-Smith.

He had to go off for treatment but is now back out there as , technically, the lone frontman – but with players moving off him.

7:54pm

7:54pm

Albion look a different team!

More lovely passing, including a Bruno back heel, leads to Holla shooting over from outside the box.

7:51pm

...what a start!

TEIXEIRA is played in down the right by Bruno's slide-rule pass and thrashes a low shot past Silvestri at his near post.

7:50pm

I want to give you a revised Albion formation ASAP but, in the meantime, a good move in midfield and a run by Teixeira bring the first yellow as Austin brings down the Portuguese.

Holla whips the free-kick over the top corner from 25 yards.

And then....

7:48pm

The South Stand to our left has filled up late and Leeds fans behind that goal are in good voice.

Albion's supporters are on the same side of the ground as us, away to our right.

7:46pm

It's under way with Albion playing towards the Kop end

7:44pm

So is tonight the night we have lift-off? It could yet be a significant night for the Seagulls as they give a first start to two new signings.

The Kop end, or Don Revie Stand, to my left is filling up nicely as the teams emerge here at Elland Road (with Albion in their bright orange strip).

I can’t really say the same for the rest of the stadium but it should be a decent sized gathering here tonight.

Most are hoping to see Leeds make it two wins in a row, of course.

A first goal and/or a first point are the first ambitions for the Seagulls.

Holla seems on the face of it to be a good find, the lad from Liverpool also sounds promising hopefully he has progressed since his loan at Brentford.

Disappointed in McCourt, no real end product and probably league 1 level, hope he proves me wrong.

Still hopeful we will make a couple of big signings with the transfer fee's received and wages freed up.

Maybe wise to take him off now and give Toko the second half. Might seem a waste of a sub but desperate tackles tend to come from those not completely match fit/sharp.

Brilliant win, but let's keep our feet on the ground! Leeds were poor, very poor! Results already unpredictable, Derby losing, Millwall top of table!
If we can follow this up with a home win then beat Swindon in the cup, we will have turned the corner imo. Still need some big name signings though, a couple of injuries could put us back to square one.

How are Tex's hamstrings? Good I hope

Let's spend some of the remaining £12+ million v soon then and get serious.

Now we have something to be happy about there's got to be song in there from that dreadful early Eighties sit com, "Only when I laugh" - I'm H Y P P I - 'EH .... etc!!??

Great to have a quality performance to enjoy - bring it (the performance) to The Amex now and have some more "enigmatic Kazenga Lua Lua!!" 3 wins in a row and we'd prob be in the auto promo places!!

UTA!!

Glad my prediction in previous post of losing tonight was wrong! 13 shots shows we made lots of chances. At last, the season starts. Two home games next, so all positive. Was I worried? Said not until end of August, but feeling much better now. Bring on Saturday.

Warren Aspinal said on the radio, trust Tony there are 2 maybe 3 signings to come, now he does have inside knowledge, that fills me with hope, I maybe a moaning Minnie but I would like to start the season running and in my opinion our transfer policy has cost us at least 3 points but hey Ho feels fantastic to beat dirty Leeds away onwards and upwards all positive from now on

Rumours that left back is John Arne Riise are unfortunately wrong. Its George McCartney and Michael Chopra is also poised to sign.

Can't say I'd be too excited about Chopra. Played 18 games for Blackpool last year and had no goals. Not exactly the spark we're looking for. Seems he's just another journeyman free agent. Unless the club are willing to part with some cash, this is about all we'll get. Hope this rumour has no legs.
