Irish club Cork City have accepted an offer from an un-named club for full-back Brian Lenihan.

Albion and a host of Premier League clubs, headed by Hull and Crystal Palace, have been linked with the 20-year-old, regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the League of Ireland.

The bid accepted by Cork is believed to be from the Seagulls for around £200,000, according to reports.

A statement released by Cork on their official website this morning said: "Cork City Football Club can confirm that the club has received an offer for our player, Brian Lenihan, which has been accepted.

"The club will not be making any further comment on the matter at this time, and the focus of our management and players is fully on Friday night’s FAI Ford Cup tie against Bohemians at Turner’s Cross."

Lenihan is expected to make his farewell appearance against Bohemians.

The versatile youngster can play at right-back or in midfield.

Albion are currently well covered in both positions in the first team by Spanish veterans Bruno and Inigo Calderon, so Lenihan would begin life at the Amex in the development squad.

I suspect this signing is with half an eye on next season. Our right backs are getting on a bit, and besides Calde is also our 4th choice centre back as well at the moment, so we could do with the cover. If Lenihan and Chicksen develop this season we'll start the next one with 2 young, fast wing backs. With Dunk now establishing himself the club is at last becoming a place to develop young talent.

Then again Leeds don't appear to be being hindered, 11 signings so far, does that mean they are bothering with FFP ?

If he signs for us then great news, it will give us a great prospect for the future, more chance of game time with us than a Premiership club at this time. Plus some good mentoring from experienced guys like Caldi and Bruno as they come towards the end of their competitive playing days at this level.

Leaving it late? You make it sound like the club just have to identify who they want and plop him straight into the line-up. It doesn't work that way. Clubs and agents hold out for as much as they can get and aren't in the same hurry if they have a marketable commodity. The only players you can get in a hurry are the ones nobody else wants or nobody else can afford.

The leeds signings and the Rosler article is kind of the point, it is not just us struggling to sign quality, there are a few clubs within the division spending ridiculous amounts of money to sign what you would call quality strikers and that is driving the price up of average strikers as well.

Nonsense I've been watching Brighton for over forty years and it's only in the last couple of seasons we have not had the majority of the squad ready for the start of the season, and the majority of our competitors had their squads ready for season start, it may be to do with ppl budget restraints agreed but that is a new phenomenon

Looks promising this lad...

My hope is that we will get him in and then promote Calde to a player/assistant manager role. The way he carries himself... what he says... the way the other players react to him... Its time to give him a chance.
I think the majority of fans would approve of Calde becoming number two, he conducts himself with the upmost quality.
No way.

Still the worse tackle ever. officaL
Ringy please can you return to that slightly humourous not so negative troll we saw yesterday
You know you are talking 100% dung regarding Calde's tackle.

Another gamble on the cheap. And if by some chance he is half decent then he will be sold and the money not reinvested in the team, that's how Bloom operates.
Wish you were a Mayfly and not a Mayfield

A cheap gamble?! The kid sounds a decent prospect so how on earth can you complain about that???!!!!
If he's a decent prospect then Bloom will sell and the money will not go back into the team. I'd say there's plenty to complain about the way this club is being run.

To be fair, un-named club and numerous clubs interested in him, does not mean the bid has come from us. Interesting article / interview with Wigans Uwe Rosler about trying to sign a forward on the BBC

Then again Leeds don't appear to be being hindered, 11 signings so far, does that mean they are bothering with FFP ?
most clubs don't worry about ffp even those who are broke Albion just hide behind
