Sami Hyypia wants Albion to play their way out of the Championship.
Hyypia set his stall out in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory at Leeds United by packing his new-look side with players comfortable on the ball.
He said: “I would be maybe in the wrong place if I thought we couldn’t play like this in the Championship. Where it takes us, time will tell, but that’s the style I would like to play. I think the players will enjoy it as well.
“In the past years many teams who want to play football have been promoted to the Premier League, so that’s a positive.”
Hyypia gave full debuts at Elland Road to new signings Danny Holla and Joao Teixeira in a midfield which also included Bruno, Jake Forster-Caskey and Kemy Agustien.
The Finn said: “I think if you want to play football you need to have those kind of players on the field.
“I was a defender so I don’t know if it’s strange to want to play like this but that’s what I like and that’s what we’ll try to look like all season. I wouldn’t say everything is working now like it should but we are in a good way.
“I think we can take a lot of confidence from the performance into the next games and continue working on our possession game and get even better on the ball.
“The battling is there. We are working hard defensively and hopefully we can keep the good football going.”
The Amex faithful get their first look at Hyypia’s revamped team against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow.
New left-back loan signing Joe Bennett from Aston Villa could make his debut and so could gifted ex-Barnsley playmaker Paddy McCourt, with Agustien an injury doubt.
Hyypia said: “He (McCourt) can see some passes that nobody else can. His pre-season hasn’t been very consistent.
“Sometimes he’s trained, sometimes he hasn’t.
“I think we need to work a little bit on his fitness and hopefully he is going to be a very good addition to the squad.”
