Albion fans have been told their side has just undergone an upgrade with the addition of Adrian Colunga.

The former Getafe striker has signed a two-year deal with the Seagulls after passing a medical last night.

Colunga, 29, was previously with Sporting Gijon, who also rank among the former clubs of ex-Seagulls frontman David Rodriguez.

Albion have been told they have signed a Rodriguez-type attacker – but better - in 5ft 9ins, Oviedo-born Colunga.

Reporter Javier Barrio of the El Comercio de Gijon newspaper said: “He is a very good player. His style is similar to David Rodriguez but Adrian is a far better player.

“I think his natural place in Spain is in the first division. He is very competitive.”

What about a former Finnish international who actually played the game?

Well I think we are now getting close to the competitive squad promised by Tony Bloom, and without breaking the bank. Starting to look like the much criticised Burke is actually doing a very good job and making some very shrewd moves.

Glad to hear he is a "far better" player than David Rodriguez......looks like he could be a really positive addition and vying for a starting place or as an impact substitution. Still need that one more quality, goalscoring signing up front and then we should be good to go. Welcome to the Amex Adrian.

Bit old at 29 so I dont expect us to be able to sell him onto a PL club for a big profit in a year or 2 (ie. no Ulloa) but from what I'm hearing he can do a good job for us for 2 years and help our promotion push. Always suspicious why a good player hasn't got a club and is available for free. Seems too good to be true.
That aside, the squad is getting stronger all the time (even if Solly M leaves this week we are still strong) and Hyypia is starting to grow into the job. Its a shame all the new talent wasnt brought in sooner because we lost the first 2 weeks of the season through not being ready. So we basically started with 6 points less than everyone else. But it's all coming together now and I bet those non believers who burnt their season tickets after the first 2 results are crying in the beer now.

Agree, you can never have too much quality in the squad but a big striker who is effective in both boxes is a must for us.

Look at our line up for the Leeds and Bolton matches and decide, who are you going to leave out of the line up to make way for the tall striker?
If you come up with JFC, well he is not a striker and has a mid-field role, and if JFC didn't start another of our mid-field option would. Are you going to drop CMS?

No, Sami said he wants two players for each position so this new lad would compete with CMS, I think. This would still leave space for say Glenn Murray or Chris Wood to fight for the big ugly centre forward role - in my dreams!!

Yeah I get that the Spaniard will challenge/cover for CMS, but if a tall striker were to be brought in, as some are saying shoud be, then the question remains, who stands down from the Leeds and Bolton line ups to make room for him?

Hi bruv, good game yesterday, things seem to be fitting into place. With an out and out striker we could have easily had another 2 or 3 goals, but it's points that count.

Hi Bro.
I am not so sure that Hyypia will go for another out and out striker. With the Spanish lad we now have three so another Tex type, attacking mid-field player, is more likely. If we want some muscle and good tech skills just behind CMS, then Liverpool's Ibe is the man. Problem is, a lot of clubs are said to be interested in getting him on loan. He had a great tour over here.

I got shot down a couple of weeks ago for saying we should trust in TB.
We now have a squad that compares favourably with our play off team under Gus.
And before any of you complain about the lost points in the 1st 2 games,
We are only 1point behind our 2012/13 position after 4 games but we are still in the cup.
So I am now going to say
Thankyou TB & well done DB getting the players that Sammi wanted.

The signs from the last 2 games is that we are going to play a higher tempo game.
So even if we don't make the play offs, I believe we are in for more excitement this year.

I now expect to be attacked by certain posters.
The 100% mob can go swivel
But I woud like to hear from the Glass half empty brigade as to whether they may just have pre judged the suits a little too early.

i think we mostly pre judged due to the fact that we was so inactive with players coming in and all our better players going out ( failed to get us promoted but still prem players now) and the silence was very un nerving i cant say im unhappy now just hope those 6 points dont come back to bite us on the bum

before this season is done with we are going to pick up points from matches where we didn't look like getting anything, things tend to balance out over a season. Why look back at two matches above looking at any other match we lose, in fact with a better squad are not future losses mor of an issue rather than those two lost with a lesser squad?

any season you drop needless points, it happens.
We are 3 points behind an auto promotion spot.
It is what we do from now that is important, the past has gone.

well for me our squad was so poor in those opening games that its no surprise that we lost them and no doubt we would of beaten them both with this team and be sat top now. i am fully aware that we will lose games that we should win and vice versa but to give 6 points away is just silly in my book

Congratulations are due to Will Buckkley who had an outstanding debut for Sunderland today and gave the Man Utd defnce all sorts of problems. High praise for King Will from the commentators . He's looking an absoluate nargain at £2.5m - looks like we sold him too cheaply though no doubt the low fee was skilfully engineered by GP and WB and Will was under orders to lower his value by being injured and not playing very well.

yes but surely the point is that we could not sign them two weeks before.
Things only free up as we near the deadline and players cannot get better deals so bargains are struck. We could have paid much more but that would have restricted the number we could bring in either now or in January.

Only reason sick note played is because sick note Adam Johnson was sick! He will only be a bit part player as will Bridcutt! He had a good first half but none existent in the second. Good luck to both but We are now aboard THE Sami Steamroller and not Gus's Bus!

Hopefully he will turn out to be a very good signing but we have to ignore all the spin and wait until he's played a few matches for us. Very few of us had heard of Ulloa when we signed him but he turned out to be a great signing for us. I also remember people getting excited about Rodriguez and let's be honest he was absolute rubbish. There are far better players than him in the Sussex County League. So let's wait until we've seen Colunga play a few times before we get too carried away.

I'm sure you said on the other thread his stats don't look good so you was not impressed, and he's not tall enough, I'll look forward to you denying it, and your reply, talk about two faced now your welcoming him on this thread,
Up the Albion!!
Try not to make your reply to abusive it will only make me **** myself, you best check the other thread before you rumble on!!
Of course I said that you plonker and I stand by it ,but he`s here now ,so I will give the guy a chance .And if you cant see that ,that is exactly what I meant ,then you are either stupid or as I suspect ,just looking for an argument , my guess is both , don't forget to change your nappy !.
As I thought the usual dribble, try getting to a game instead off sitting on your computer slagging off Burke and his signings,

Don't want to do it like that, do you have to be a tool to get in to tugs special clicky club, or do you just have to agree with what he says, but doesn't like to be challenged or he is never wrong then gets abusive, answers on a postage stamp!!

So how did your early August predictions go Andy? "Transfer targets Sam Baldock, Adam Clayton and Stephen Ward are all expected to sign for the Seagulls."
I'm now looking forward to a much better season after the signing of several good players (not any of the above though) this month.

I don't see how anyone can praise Will Buckley for his admitted behaviour for the last six months. He has told us his head and heart wasn't in it and all he could think about was Sunderland, Gus and the PL - but he still found it within himself to take the money and just run about a bit - if not on the sick bench. As far as I'm concerned, he's gone and that's it. One more gone from the payroll. Yes, he had some good games for us but that was a long time ago. I wish him well but fear he may end up as a bench warmer.

There is no point in feeding the troll..... unless you like him infesting this site.
Regards your point about Buckley, I agree. It is human nature to be distracted by bright shiny baubles, like Premiership fame and money, but other people's careers at Brighton e.g. manager etc are at stake, so I cannot find an excuse for him. Pity, he was a good player for us, but that tells us a lot about the man!

I'll be pleased when we have signed another striker (for Ulloa) and a winger (in place of Buckley). A good performance I thought against Bolton but I still felt that a couple of extra players as just mentioned would provide the final touches to what is beginning to look a more exciting squad than last season.
I am wondering if Colunga might be played in the role that Crofts adopted on Saturday and Agustein played against Leeds ie up front on the right of CMS in the same way Teixeira does on the left.
Has anybody heard what is happening regarding the young Cork City player Lenihan that it was rumoured last week we are interested in ? An extra defender might be a useful addition especially if SH has any question marks over Maksimenko's ability to be member of the first team squad.
