Albion have been told they have signed “a born goalscorer” from Spain.

But Sami Hyypia could still add to his attacking options before next Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Seagulls have signed livewire top-flight Spanish striker Adrian Colunga from Getafe for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old scored the winner against Malaga keeper Willy Caballero which helped nudge Getafe towards top-flight safety last season.

Former Seagulls favourite David Lopez has backed him to shine in the Championship.

David, now with Lugo, told The Argus last night: “He’s a born goalscorer. He has got a scorer’s instinct. It’s in his head.

“He has got a lot of movement and a lot of quality.

“I know him from playing against him rather than as a team-mate but I like him. He is a very good signing.”

Colunga, who was at the Amex as Albion beat Bolton 2-1 on Saturday, could make his debut in the Capital One Cup tie at Swindon tomorrow.

At 5ft 9in, he is not a replacement for Leo Ulloa.

But Albion were delighted to move in when it became clear the player no longer featured in Getafe’s plans.

Colunga scored 36 goals in the Spanish first division in total and Hyypia reckons that sort of experience could be valuable.

Albion’s recent additions have predominantly come from top-flight clubs.

Hyypia said: "Adrian is another very skilful, technical player, who is good on the ball, capable of scoring goals and will create chances for others.

"He has the experience of playing at the highest level in Spain, having worked his way up through the Spanish leagues, and he will add to our attacking options."

Colunga came through the ranks at Sporting Gijon and has also scored goals for Zaragoza, Recreativo and Las Palmas.

Meanwhile former Albion striker Will Hoskins, who was released at the end of last season, is joining Oxford United in League Two.
