Duo still out as Albion await international clearance for new striker

Kemy Agustien

First published in Sport by , Chief sports reporter

Albion will still be without Kemy Agustien and Solly March for tomorrow night's Capital One Cup tie at Swindon Town.

And new Spanish striker Adrian Colunga's involvement in the clash at the County Ground hinges on the Seagulls securing international clearance in time.

Agustien missed Saturday's 2-1 home win over Bolton after twisting an ankle at Leeds last week.

England under 21 international March has yet to play this season due to a back problem.

Boss Sami Hyypia said of Agustien: "We need to go day by day with him. Certainly tomorrow he's not involved."

March is earmarked for further investigation on his back injury after undergoing scans.

Hyypia said: "He has some kind of stress thing in his back and he is seeing a specialist tomorrow. We'll know more then about when he is going to be fit."

Dale Stephens, who suffered ankle ligament damage in April, has also not played this season.

Hyypia said: "I've seen him (training) outside a few times. With Dale as well I don't have an exact date.

"We need to go day by day and if he gets a setback or some problems we need to decrease the load again and see how he is progressing."

I think our midfield can cope without Kemy now. Would be good to get Solly back in the frame and same too with Dale Stephens.

If clearance comes in, tomorrow would be the perfect opportunity for Colunga to get some playing time under his belt - let's rest CMS for Saturday.

UTA!!

Just returned to the UK and am delighted to see we have made some signings and have secured a couple of good results. Looking forward to seeing them on Saturday. The Liverpool loanee and Holla seem great acquisitions and it's good to see Dunk finally showing his potential now the past seasons nonsense is behind him.
I note CMS is back to his energetic best, but he still has to prove he has the strength and finishing ability to succeed at this level, so every good game he has will help his confidence. The new signing looks like a carbon copy of him, so I cant imagine them playing together.
Sorry to see March is injured and I hope he will be back in contention soon and taking up those positions and making the runs that Buckley used to do. It's a sound start and I can only see things getting better.

I hope we get the clearance on Colunga quickly. I also trust that the club identifies and clears up March's injury. He might be most useful in the advanced right wing/side forward position in the same way Teixeira is on the left. Of course it is feasible that Colunga might be deployed in that position.
Beginning to look as if we won't be successful in securing the young Irish lad Lenihan since we haven't heard anything. I thought he was due at the Amex for talks potentially over the weekend. I hope I am proved wrong.

Re Solly March and the mysterious back problem... I wonder if anyone of the medical staff has checked to see if he has had his wisdom teeth removed. Sounds silly until you see that Wenger sent players to France to have them removed and Gerard would be crippled with back pain after every match until Houllier sent him to France to get the same teeth sorted. Don't ask me why but it appears to work. Maybe Solly, just maybe...

Good luck in any case, UTA.

Not too sure about Ince and Toko together - Ince seems to be MOTM one week and play a stinker the next, while Toko might be better coming off the bench if things are going well. And wouldn't Ankergren get the nod over Walton? The place behind the main striker (whether it's CMS or COG) may be between Colunga and Texeira. It might also be the time to give McCourt a run on the right, giving Bruno a break. Let's see if we can do without JFC - I know he 'links up' well, which is what managers seem to like (as Hammond a couple of years ago) but those simple passes do nothing but slow down forward progress - just get it to Lualua, McCourt, Texeira or Colunga quickly. Definitely worth resting Bennett - he looks 'the business' to me, and better than Ward.

I know what your getting at Oldgull but could you honestly say that COG was Hypia's signing? We will probably never know but IMO he's not right for our team( he's been put on a 3yr deal which I also can't get my head round)but like I said on another thread regarding CMS I hope he proves me wrong!

but then is Bennett a Hyppia signing?
None of us know, but Hyppia obviously has a say so even if COG was identified by DB & Co.Sami will have given it the go ahead.
Sami will have watched his performances scoring 16 times in a relegated team.
That alone indicates he has some talent.
I am prepared to give him time. To judge him on the 1st 2 matches is unfair as the whole team was poor.
Remember Brighton signing Malcolm Poskett from 4th div Hartlepool.
No one had heard of him , but he did a reasonable job as a back up striker (17goals in 45 matches). Scoring 11goals in our promotion season to the old 1st Div.
COG may just be that, a striker to come on with 20 mins to go to get a much needed goal.
