Hyypia hints Albion could be in market for another striker

ALBION manager Sami Hyypia has hinted at another addition to his striker options before the transfer window shuts.

The Seagulls made Spaniard Adrian Colunga  their ninth new signing at the weekend.

Hyypia has revealed to The Argus the club’s transfer business could yet reach double figures before the window closes at 11pm on Monday.

He said: “We’re still searching for the right ones and when the right one comes in front of us and would be available then we will go for one more maybe.

“Now, of course, it’s looking more positive than two weeks ago. I’m very happy we have come to this stage, that we have more quality on our side.

“I have a luxurious problem, a lot of good players to choose from. That’s a good situation for a manager.”

Colunga’s availability for tonight’s Capital One Cup second round tie at Swindon Town is dependent on Albion receiving international clearance.

Hyypia said of the 5ft 8ins former Getafe front man: “We have been searching for offensive options and he will give us one.

“He can play up front. He’s not the biggest but he has played many games up front at Getafe and definitely he can play in-between the lines as well.

“I hope he will be very good for us and adapt to the English game very quickly.”

Yes, would still love to see a big target man come in, who can hold up the ball and lay it off for the nippy strikers we now have available. Ideally this would be a permanent signing, but might be worthwhile hanging on for a loan player if the right guy isn't available to buy.

Looking forward to seeing a different line up tonight. Time for Toko to take the stage so we can see what he's made of, and Colunga too if clearance comes through. I'd like to see Walton play 90 mins too - he's committed to us for a four year term so he deserves a chance to play (IMHO).

Morning, Happy days then let's go out and bring our tenth player in to the squad, I was hoping the tenth was the right back from Cork seems to off gone a bit quiet on that one, to be fair transfer dealings are always done behind closed doors the way it should be done,

Bamford for me I wouldn't be surprised if we do bring in a striker it may well be on loan, ten days ago there was panic on here, we are not good enough we are going down people where saying, seriously Bloom promised us fans a team good enough to challenge for another good season and to me he has delivered along with Barber and Burke getting players in, bright future for this club as long as us supporters show a bit off faith for the three B's and more important some people need to take a look at themselves and say they where wrong about the guys not delivering a good squad, all about having patience some have most have not,

Yes I agree, Jeff. I'd love Bamford to be that other striker acquisition. Perhaps even on a permanent deal.

My source has told me Linegan had a medical this weekend (he thinks yesterday) but the other bid is from Hull and he won't score til he's seen them too (presumably today). I doubt we'd be able to win his signature vs PL riches but who knows. I guess we'll hear later today of tmrw.

Meantime, I'd recall Chicksen and field Walton in goal tonight. They deserve playing time and will be useful to sharpen them up. Still think we should - and will - field a strong squad. Momentum and confidence are important to us right now.

Another striker is key for a serious challenge. Just a couple of injuries up front can wreck our attacking force so we defiantly need more depth in that area. A target man would give us more variety, rather than more of the same.

Totally agree - CMS is looking good but if he was to get injured we are still short in this area. I'm afraid I think COG is not what we need and he along with Toko might be the signings this summer we regret. Would love to be proven wrong but a good target man would be a great addition IMO.

Right we need another striker, I have a choice of two in my opinion. Carlton Cole at Million or Jonathan Soriano.

Jonathan Soriano at 2 million would be the better deal. If we don't get either that's fine.

I would like to congratulate Bloom, Barber, Burke, keep up the good work.
One more thing before I go, reference my glass it's not half full or half empty, my glass is over flowing

I think your find Bournemouth have out bid us for for Coles wages no money involved just a big bag off juicy carrots and what swung it was they promised him some Cox apples weekly, they also said there put his shed on the side off Dean court so he can graze on the pitch, problem with that it's going to make there groundsman redundant, he's promised never to go to Blackpool again to ride a DONKEY!!

Nah - we couldn't afford either of their wages even if we could afford to actually sign them.

Thanks for the update on Lenihan Captain Haddock. Let's hope he opts for the greater chance of some first team football with BHA against PL status with Hull.
Taking a long term view and looking forward to next season's Summer Window, we are going to be faced with a major rebuild of our defence .
Those back 5 players still under contract at the end of this season can be counted on one hand namely Stockdale, Walton and Dunk. The list of those out of contract by then is extensive - Ankergren, Calde, Bruno, GG, Hughes, Maksimenko, and Chicksen. Bennett's loan of course will have expired.
So it makes sense for the Albion to begin some of that rebuilding process now and in the January Window. Acquiring Lenihan could be a sensible first step in any such forward planning strategy.
Reverting to topic I too wouldn't mind BHA signing Bamford as our 'Ulloa' replacement striker but I like the sound of Soriano from Red Bull Salzburg that Wardfan mentions and whose name has featured on this forum in June.
For those who don't know Soriano his stats are impressive - a real goal scoring machine. Whether we could prise him away from Salzburg is the key question and he wouldn't be cheap certainly at least £2 million but probably more than that. However after the Ulloa, Bridcutt, Barnes and Buckley sales we should have more than enough money to do so.
Finally I have just seenI the report in the Argus that we are about to sign Aston Villa's young midfielder Gary Gardner on Loan until 1 January 2015 which surprises me (I first saw this reported on Goal.com just after 9.30). I wonder if this means that the injuries to March and Stephens or even Agustein are going to have lengthy recovery periods or even if one of our midfield players is leaving the club ?
I must say life is not dull at the Amex under SH especially as it seems he wants to bring in a quality striker as mentioned above !
Onwards and Upwards with SH.
