Albion are about to make Aston Villa's midfield prospect Gary Gardner their TENTH signing of the summer.

Gardner, 22 is joining the Seagulls on loan until January 1.

He will link up at the Amex with Villa team-mate and left-back Joe Bennett, who has been borrowed from the West Midlands club for the season.

Gardner scored at the Amex in a previous loan spell with Coventry in November 2011.

He has also been loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday and signed a new two-year deal with Villa in the summer.

Albion are also still likely to sign another striker before the transfer window shuts next Monday night and they are battling with Hull to land Cork City's highly-rated young right-back Brian Lenihan for the development squad.

Another strong signing. We have cover in pretty much all positions and with another striker we are really looking at top 6 minimum again. Anyone still think we're a selling club? Can't hear you today trolls....Enough going on in Croydon i guess to entertain you...Quite funny seeing all the potential Brighton manager candidates that weren't deemed appropriate lining up at Palace....even Warnock now odds on favourite....hahaha

Another central midfielder! Very weird. Can anyone list all the CMs we have. Should be able to make a whole team with them soon. Competition for places is one thing, but too many players is a waste of resourses. Could let a couple go and take a pound off a pint and a free pie for OAPs.

The final sentence is the most interesting... we are in a fight with Hull to add Lenihan to our development squad...!!! I thought the allure of the Albion was that he would get 1st team football with us, something he couldn't be sure of with a PL club. If we are now saying 'play in our DS rather than that of Hull, Arsenal or ManU' I think we can wave goodbye, nice while it lasted. Nevermind, we can always play a midfielder in the right back spot... UTA !!!

Blimey, you really can't please some people! Why the negative comments?! It's not for us to worry if players aren't playing. All i care about is this great situation where if we get a glut of injuries again, we will cope!

Well done to all behind the scene for the squad we now have.

Another signing! :D

What a wonderful and new place to be: cover for most of our positions! How many times in seasons gone have we been left very short of cover, suffering massive injury blows to half the team, playing young unready development squad players - then at the end of the season ruing the points lost due to injuries. Lessons learned?

I also feel squad rotation should help minimise the injuries as well. Nothing but good news of late.

Still would be happy to see another striker and perhaps a winger signed, but I think we have a fairly strong squad as is now.

Apparently Colunga can play on the wing, so may have that position covered already

Also the new training facilities should help reduce injuries as well

Both March and Stephens are injured and Gardner's on loan for only 4 months. That information alone should be enough to understand the reasoning behind this.

Twaddle indeed (however you spell it).
Gardner will add some physicality to midfield and has an eye for a pass as well as a decent shot.
Lots of options and great cover until Stephens' return but most of all his pace and power will add something qe have often missed
