Hyypia hints at more transfer activity for Albion

Sami Hyypia (right) shares a joke with newly confirmed assistant Nathan Jones

First published in Sport by , Chief sports reporter

Sami Hyypia has revealed there could still be transfer business in and out of Albion before the window closes on Monday night.

The captures within the last week of Aston Villa duo Joe Bennett and Gary Gardner on loan, Spanish striker Adrian Colunga from Getafe and former Bristol City marksman Sam Baldock have hurried the number of summer signings made by the Seagulls up to 11.

Hyypia has not ruled out more activity, including trimming the squad by sending players out on loan.

The Finnish manager said: "There are still a few days to go so who knows what's going to come? I am very pleased. I now have a very good problem. I need to leave some good players on the bench and some good players will be out of the squad as well.

"I have to be a bit selfish. We don't want to have players on loan and can't call them back and are then in trouble to achieve what we want to achieve but obviously now we have a situation that a few players maybe need games and they will probably go on loan."

As soon as the Argus printed the Lenihan story you knew it was game over. Damned if they do damned if they don't, poor old Argus.

I think we need to see a few players go out on loan, those mentioned above, inc Fenelon, and Agustein, if anyone wants him!

That would not be a surprise. If they spent some of the £5.5 they received for Assombalonga (say £2m or even £1m) to get him back, that would make perfect business sense for the Albion. Top wage earner with less than a year left on his contract off the payroll.

That said it would be a shame if he did go, just when we are all in hope of him having his best season for us.

Getting Stephens fit will be like another signing....any news on him?
I posted early yesterday afternoon on the Albion Duo called up thread that according to the Irish Independent (and the Hull Daily Mail) that Lenihan, as predicted, was opting to join Hull.
I still think he would have had more chance of getting some first team game time with BHA than a PL club like Hull.
Shame really since Calde and Bruno aren't getting any younger and will both be out of contract at the end of the season.
I hope we still try and bring in another young defender now that Lenihan is a no go.

Some pertinent points Tug509. As you infer we could still do with another defender and a winger to replace Buckley.. Of course if CMS were to go to Peterborough, as ALan Duffy says is rumoured, we would need another striker to be signed in his place.
Not sure that March will leave this Window because of his back problem. At least I hope not since in another year I think he will be not only a better player but also more valuable. I don't know about other posters but I see March as being part of the club's long term future.
The sort of players whoI feel might go out on loan include Maksimenko (again), Rea and Harris. I also wonder if Agustein will still be around when the window closes.
The next 3 days could be rather interesting but then equally nothing more might happen on the transfer front which in itself might be illuminating.

Tug how would March pass a medical if he's out injured, if he was able to pass one come five o'clock Monday if they are desperate saints they might up the price to something we cannot turn down, the way the headline is I think it says don't be surprised to see a couple off players leave that we are not expecting to leave, maybe Smith which I hope not now he's fit, good thing the loan signings does not shut on Monday, agreed we need a CB and maybe a right back, no more falling out we all want the same thing we all know what that is!!

IMO if we receive an offer for CMS that's half decent we would not have any choice but to let him go, he can walk for free next summer, on the other hand if he doesn't re-discover his goal scoring form this term ime not sure he would command a large fee I did hear about a year ago that one of our star players who we had paid a good fee for was not looking to renew his contract because his wife had not settled in Brighton my source would not reveal who it was but I have often wondered if it was Cms, maybe, maybe not, I incedently think he is looking as sharp as ever and he may hit double figures tough one what does the club do

Jeff ,my only worry with Solly`s injury is maybe it is an "injury" like Bridcutt ,Buckley and Ulloa `s was ,a prelude to a move ,I really hope not and the guy stays where he is wanted ,with a new 4 year deal recently signed ,anyone would have to pay a lot to prise him away . I am surprised we hav`nt taken the chance to extend CMS contract ,maybe in the pipeline ,but it is a little worrying , I know that Zat Knight and Sean St Ledger are free agents ,I don't know what you think about those two ,but they do know this division well , totally agree with you ,no more falling out ,we can both put it down to the pressure of the TW and our shared love of a great club . If you are right about March so called injury and I don't know if true or not but if that is the case he leaves on our terms, not his or saints valuation but ours, worth four million plus all day long,

Those two defenders you mentioned ain't bad shouts, I throw one your way Paul Mcshane on loan from Hull now Dawson gone there from spurs, we all remember what he did on that great night away at palace, what a header or was it his shoulder,

We certainly have no need for Lingard especially on the terms he came last year.

Remember him and that night ,oh yes ,I have the White shirt we wore on that night with his name and the number 79` ,yep would be happy to see him again in our colours ,only concern is he takes no prisoners , can pick up a yellow or two ,but we were told that about Holla and look at his impact and quality ,besides they owe us a favour after stealing Lenihan from us .
I don't know exactly where the £4m price tag for Solly came from , but I did read there interest on 15th August about him from the local paper The Echo , I think it was one of their forums that suggested they were putting an offer for that to us ,but as we know all to well ,rumours are worthless . you may find Sami and the club want to see how CMS does in the coming months.
Now he is at full fitness, Sami's style suits him. I wouldn't be surprised if a new contract is offered before January.
If he feels wanted I think he would sign.
Re Solly £4m would be hard to turn down, especially if there was a sell on clause.
Solly may struggle to break into the team at the moment. We do have plenty of attacking options

If Southampton can sell young players to Arsenal AOC, Walcott and Chambers for in excess of 10 million each, Solly March should surely command a respectable fee, I would suggest in excess of £4m, PLUS a substantial sell on percentage!
