Albion's strikers backed to fire - by the man who knows them best

Adrian Colunga was lively against Charlton

Sam Baldock only had a brief run against the Addicks

Craig Mackail-Smith scored against Bolton

Joao Teixeira takes on Charlton

Chris O'Grady offers another option

First published in Sport by

Albion’s strikers have been backed to make sparks fly – by the man who faces them every day in training.

David Stockdale reckons the Seagulls’ new collection of frontrunners can cause serious damage in the Championship. And they can only benefit from some work in training during the current lay-off.

Albion were on the wrong end of a double strike from Charlton forward Igor Vetokele last Saturday and needed defender Lewis Dunk to respond.

But keeper Stockdale said: “The strikers we have brought in and the strikers we have already got are all goalscorers and they will come good.

“We will all come good as a team and it’s nice to know goals are coming from everywhere. The chances we had with Adrian (Colunga) and Joao (Teixeira) show we are creating.

“One day we will run out 5-0 winners and people will say ‘Where did that come from?’.”

It was a very good performance last Saturday until we got around the 18 yard box.

I would feel the international break is perfect timing to gain the familiarity they need as a unit to break down defences in the last third.

It all looks promising.

Why the thumbs down for RS2? It's a valid point.
Surely there should be some reporting form the latest public debate? After all, it's the first general opportunity since the end of the window and a clutch of signings that were 'promised' by TB at the last forum.
So, is he happy? Are fans happy? Was their general concensus? Did fans appreciate the apparent lack of a major fee splash? Were they critical?
I agree RS2. This must be a better story...?

On a separate note; who did Beccio go to? thought it was Leeds as they got rid of Smith but can't seem to find any detail. I know people said that we do not need a target man but beccio would be class.

On subject, seems Stockdale is giving a lot of interviews.

Off subject England played like the Albion last night and fell down in the last third although we will be better not sure about England.

Looking at the squad it seems to me that we have 25 regular players, Walton, Harris and Rea probably won't feature this season as far as league matches go. As we stand today we have 23 players available for selection, Stephens and March being injured.
Compared to the rest of the squads in our division we are among the bottom 6 in squad size, do we have enough players?

We have a lot of league matches to get thru, we are still in the League Cup and the FA Cup will be upon us, should we look at the loan window to pick up maybe 2 more players?

He went to Rotherham after changing his mind at the last minute.
Leeds sold Smith on the basis that Becchi was joining.

I know the pain from when I lost my Dad SMF20. Be strong mate, it's hard now but the pain will ease and you'll be left with the good memories. As you can see from the messages you have got today, there are people on here that care about moments like this....we are a bit of a 'family'. Hang in there and best to you and yours.
