Trevor Geer recognised Eastbourne’s fighting spirit as they ended their season with a rare away point.

Eagles finished with a 5-1 and 4-2 to lose 47-43 at Belle Vue Aces tonight.

They had earlier gone down 52-40 in the first half of the double-header.

The results mean they lost all 16 away fixtures this season while winning 15 and drawing one at home.

There are doubts over the club's continuation but rider Joonas Kylmkorpi took to Twitter tonight to wish them well for 2015.

Kylmakorpi was involved in both late heat advantages after Aces had gone into the last two races with a comfortable-looking ten-point lead.

Bjarne Pedersen ended the year by beating former Eagles No.1 Matej Zagar in the nominated race to make sure of the point.

Eagles boss Geer said: “There was a bit of fight in them at the end. It was a little bit of what we have needed from them all season.

“Bjarne and Joonas got going in the second meeting of the night and we got a point out of it.”

Danny Halsey also improved in the second meeting while, for Aces, Scott Nicholls remained unbeaten in nine races throughout the evening.

Injury-ravaged Eastbourne again rode without Cameron Woodward, Mikkel Michelsen and Lewis Blackbird.

Woodward is making slow and painful progress in Poland after breaking his thigh bone.

He has now begun taking a few steps with the help of a walking frame but is expected to remain in Lublin hospital for some time.
