Crawley Town picked up their first away point since the opening day of the season with an excellent goalless draw away to Doncaster Rovers in League One.

Goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown enjoyed a debut to remember, keeping a clean sheet thanks largely to three tremendous saves in the closing stages from Theo Robinson.

However, the point was no more than the Reds deserved for a hard-working display which limited their hosts to one serious chance of note until those dying moments.

The home side enjoyed lots of possession in the first half but created nothing to trouble Ashdown, who was handed a first league start for Reds in preference to Brian Jensen.

Former Crawley loanee Kyle Bennett was a lively customer for the hosts but the visitors defended stoutly throughout the opening 45 minutes.

In fact, Crawley had the best chance of the half on 17 minutes when Ryan Dickson headed wide from Gavin Tomlin’s hooked cross.

Seven minutes into the second half Robinson headed over for Doncaster with the hosts appealing for a handball as the cross from Richie Wellens came over.

On 68 minutes Izale McLeod had a shot from the edge of the area deflected wide for a corner but clearcut chances were at a premium.

Moments later Bobson Bawling had a shot saved by Jed Steer with his legs at the near post as Crawley sensed a winner.

The play had now become stretched and Doncaster’s James Coppinger unleashed a shot from 20 yards which Ashdown held well.

Crawley were reduced to ten men for the final stages when Ryan Dickson went off injured with all three substitutes having been used and they were indebted to Ashdown in a late push-off from the hosts.

The keeper made a fabulous one-handed save from Robinson with 89 minutes played.

Then Ashdown made a double stop from the same player in stoppage time.

Crawley: Ashdown; Bawling, Leacock, Walsh, Sadler; Keane; Tomlin (sub Banya 78), Smith, Wright (sub Henderson 56), Dickson; McLeod (sub Harrold 82). Subs not used: Bradley, Edwards, Young, Jensen.
