Albion boss Sami Hyypia wants points on the board against Blackpool at the Amex tomorrow.

He is not panicking about the Seagulls’ slow start and lowly position but has admitted they cannot afford to fall too far behind.

Albion are 18th in the early Championship table after four defeats in seven games.

They are two victories adrift of the play-off places as they prepare for next-to-bottom and winless Blackpool.

Hyypia told The Argus: “We need to get some points for sure. We can’t wait for a long time. We want to finish as high as possible this year.

“I know already we are a bit behind and we can’t fall too far behind.

“It is going to be an even season I think. Anything can happen. You win two games and all of a sudden you jump many places higher but we can’t wait for a long time. We need to get some points on the table.”

Although Albion, beaten 2-0 at Ipswich on Tuesday, have leaked nine goals in their last four games, Hyypia was more concerned at Portman Road by their failure to score.

He said: “Maybe in the final third we weren’t dangerous enough. We had a lot of shots, the keeper made a few good saves, but many shots were flying over the goal.

“Maybe we need before Saturday to practice some shots. In the final third we could be more dangerous, more precise to get into better positions to score, give more options to the man on the ball.”
