Lewes may consider sending Terry Dodd out on loan in a bid to get him firing.

Dodd, right, joined the Rooks from Bognor in the summer having scored 35 goals in all competitions last season.

However, he has failed to find the net in eight outings for Lewes and has been on the substitutes’ bench since the end of August.

Assistant boss Danny Bloor, who previously managed Dodd at Worthing, insists Dodd can be a big hit at the Dripping Pan once he gets into his stride.

Bloor said: “I have known Terry for a long time and no one is more disappointed with the way he has started at Lewes than himself.

“But, make no mistake, Terry is a proven goalscorer in Ryman premier.

“A couple of seasons ago Jamie (Howell, Bognor boss) sent him out on loan to East Preston and he started firing. That is an area we may look at.”

Scoring generally has been a problem for Lewes in recent matches, although four successive clean sheets suggest they have put their early season defensive problems behind them.

Bloor said: “You can’t run before you can walk. We have sorted out conceding goals but we have only scored one in the last three matches.

“We know that is an area we need to get sorted but it is no good scoring three and conceding four. We needed to get ourselves solid and now we can sort it out at the other end.”

Lewes continue to be troubled by injury and unavailability. Gary Elphick is still nursing a hamstring problem which may force him to miss tomorrow’s visit of Ryman premier leaders Maidstone United but on-loan defender Louis John – who was not allowed to play in the FA Cup ties with Bognor – is available again.

Sam Cole is a doubt with a knee injury while Alex Malins will see a specialist about his knee problem but skipper Jack Walder and Henry Muggeridge are pencilled in to make their comebacks in a development game at Burgess Hill next Thursday.
