Burgess Hill stretched their winning run to seven games and Bognor enjoyed an away success but it was otherwise a disappointing day for Sussex clubs.

An early own goal gave Burgess Hill a 1-0 win at home to Herne Bay to keep them top of Ryman south and extend their run of victories to seven.

The other five Sussex sides in Ryman south all lost, with Hastings United suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Carshalton. Kenny Pogue levelled 16 minutes from time only for the visitors to net a late winner.

Omar Bugiel scored a late goal for Worthing as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Ramsgate, Three Bridges had Lee Carney sent off as they went down 1-0 at Walton and Hersham while Horsham lost 2-1 at Whitstable despite a second goal in as many games from new signing Troy Williams.

East Grinstead’s sorry run continued with a 4-0 defeat at home to Sittingbourne.

In Vanarama Conference south, injury-hit Whitehawk slipped out of the play-off places after losing 3-1 at Bishop’s Stortford despite taking an early lead through Jake Robinson.

Eastbourne Borough suffered a third defeat in succession as they went down 2-0 at lowly Bath City.

In Ryman premier, Stuart Green scored the only goal as Bognor won 1-0 away to Grays Athletic.

Lewes slipped into the bottom three after a 2-0 defeat at home to leaders Maidstone United while Jamie Brotherton netted as Peacehaven came from behind to draw 1-1 at home to VCD Athletic.
