Marvin Elliott came back to haunt Yeovil boss Gary Johnson with a quickfire second half brace to earn Crawley Town a 2-0 win at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Elliott – who played for Johnson at Bristol City and was on trial with Yeovil in the summer - powered home two headers in the space of as many minutes on his home debut after the visitors had dominated the first half.

The Jamaica international nodded Reds in front from a Gwion Edwards cross after 57 minutes and then threw himself at a Jimmy Smith delivery to head past Jake Kean.

It was the first time Crawley had scored more than once in a league game this season and lifted them above Yeovil to 13th in League One.

Yeovil had arrived on a high following their victory over Peterborough the previous weekend and almost took the lead after just 12 minutes.

The Crawley defence stood off Joel Grant on the edge of the area and were almost made to pay the price as Grant placed a low shot which beat Jamie Ashdown but came back off a post.

Keiffer Moore then shrugged off the attentions of Joe Walsh to burst through on goal but blazed his shot wastefully over the bar.

The best chance for the visitors arrived just before the half hour as a cross from Nathan Ralph found Grant unmarked six yards out but Ashdown spread himself well to keep out his header.

Ashdown was called into action again to push a long-range shot from Ralph over the bar while Crawley’s only real chance in the first half came when Jimmy Smith headed wide from a Josh Simpson cross.

Whatever Gregory said at half-time it had the desired effect as the momentum changed completely in the second half.

Elliott shot over from the edge of the area and Lanre Oyebanjo tested Jake Kean for the first time with a low shot into the goalkeeper’s midriff.

Suddenly Yeovil looked vulnerable and Crawley made the most of it as they struck twice in the space of two minutes to take a strangehold on the game.

Jimmy Smith and Gwion Edwards combined well down the right for the first with Edwards floating an inviting cross to the far post for Elliott to head home.

Smith was also involved in the second as he whipped over a cross which Elliott threw himself at to give Kean no chance.

Having scored only four goals in nine league games previously the home fans were in raptures and it should have been 3-0 moments later.

A lovely through-ball from Edwards caught the Yeovil defence square but McLeod saw his shot cannon into the legs of Kean.

Yeovil nearly pulled one back in the closing stages but Ashdown ensured a second clean sheet in three appearances with a good save from Aaron Martin’s header.
