Luke Wright has been rewarded for the best season of his career by being awarded a benefit year in 2015.

Wright, pictured left, was Sussex’s leading run-scorer in the NatWest T20 Blast and also shone with the bat in the Championship and Royal London One Day Cup.

He follows fellow long-serving players Mike Yardy and Matt Prior in being awarded a benefit year in recent seasons.

Wright said: “It’s a huge honour. When I joined Sussex all those years ago, if I’d have been told I’d be sat here now getting a benefit at the age of 29, I wouldn’t have believed it.

“You know that when the club award it to you that you’ve served the club well. Ever since I was capped in 2007 I’ve been delighted to do well for this club.

“I’ve got some great memories, I’ve won some amazing trophies with some very special players.”

Wright joined Sussex from Leicestershire at the start fo the 2004 season and was part of the double winning side in 2006 before helping Sussex retain the four-day crown in 2007.

The 29-year-old was awarded his county cap in 2007 and went on to make his international debut in the same season, going on to represent England 101 times in limited overs cricket and being part of the team which lifted the World Twenty20 in 2010.

Sussex chairman Jim May said: “Luke has been a truly exciting player for Sussex and a key performer in our one-day success. In recent seasons he has matured into a top-class four-day batsman.

“He is a very popular player with our members as well as the wider cricketing public and we are delighted to award him a benefit for 2015.”
