Albion boss Sami Hyypia has demanded a fight to the finish from his players at Huddersfield tonight.

Hyypia felt one or two of his players gave up in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Middlesbrough, which stretched the fifth-bottom Seagulls’ winless streak in the Championship to eight games.

The Finn does not want to see the white flag raised again in the white rose county as Albion bid for a much-needed boost to their ailing season.

Hyypia said: “I had a feeling we gave up a bit. I would always like my teams to fight until the last breath when you have a chance to come back.

“Two-nil (down) at home is nothing. I thought about the game when I saw Southampton against Sunderland and Mr Poyet after the game came out to say that he was disappointed that his players gave up.

“That sometimes happens but everyone has to have that professional pride. You can’t lose 8-0 and when you are trailing 2-0 that’s nothing, so we need to fight until the end and then, when the final whistle has gone, then you can’t do anything.

“I had a feeling with one or two players it didn’t happen.”

Huddersfield, rejuvenated by ex-Charlton boss Chris Powell, are four points and three places above Albion after three wins and a draw.

Hyypia said: “Huddersfield are a typical Championship side, they try to compete with high tempo.

“I know that they won’t give up, so we need to have a high level of performance for 90 minutes and then we have a chance.”
