Conor Henderson is rewarded for his stunning late match-winner against Walsall in midweek with his first start for Crawley for seven games.
Henderson, who curled home a fine free kick against the Saddlers, replaces Jimmy Smith in midfield as one of three changes from that 1-0 victory.
Keith Keane returns from a one-game ban to take the place of Marvin Elliott who suffered a groin strain in training during the week and is not even on the bench.
The final change sees top scorer Izale McLeod left out of the starting line-up for the first time in a league game since arriving during the summer. McLeod - who has scored six goals this season - is replaced by Matt Harrold who is rewarded for some good displays off the bench with only his second league start of the season.
Gillingham include former Reds midfielder Michael Doughty in their starting line-up having joined on a one-month loan from QPR yesterday. Doughty scored against Crawley while at Stevenage last season.
Gillingham: Nelson; Hoyte, Legge, Egan, Martin; Mcglashan, Hessenthaler, Doughty, Dickenson; Kedwell, McDonald. Subs: Bywater, Fish, Pritchard, German, Norris, Dack, Hare.
Crawley (4-1-4-1): Ashdown; Oyebanjo, Leacock, Walsh, Sadler; Keane; Edwards, Simpson, Henderson, Young; Harrold. Subs: Jensen, Bradley, Smith, McLeod, Bawling, Tomlin, Banya.
