Tymal Mills has revealed how Chris Jordan persuaded him to sign for Sussex.

Mills turned down offers from Lancashire and Worcestershire to agree a two-year deal at Hove today following his departure from Essex at the end of last season.

The 22-year-old fast bowler contacted Jordan when he was considering his options with the England international convincing him that Sussex was the ideal place for him to kick-start a career that failed to ignite at Chelmsford.

Mills sees plenty of similarities in his situation to that of Jordan following his release by Surrey two years ago, with both struggling to fulfil their potential at their former counties while being hampered by back injuries.

Jordan’s career has taken off at a remarkable rate since moving to Hove and Mills hopes the change in environment can prove just as successful to revive his international prospects.

Mills said: “I had a couple of offers on the table so I wanted to make sure I made the right decision. I know CJ well as we were in Australia together last winter with the Lions so I spoke to him on the phone when Sussex came in for me.

“I wanted to get his experience of moving to Sussex and how he found it. He had nothing bad to say about the county and said the environment was perfect for him to flourish in which he has.

“I suppose there are some similarities between us. He left Surrey and has gone on to do really well and hopefully I can follow in the same path although it is important I don’t try to look too far ahead.

“Out of the counties who had shown an interest in me Sussex was immediately the one I wanted to play for. I wanted to make sure I was thorough as it is a big move for me but I am really happy with the choice I have made.”
