Crawley manager John Gregory has described today’s clash with Crewe as “our toughest match of the season”.

Crewe arrive at the Checkatrade.com Stadium second from bottom in League One but having pulled off surprise wins against Coventry, Walsall and Peterborough in recent weeks.

Victory could lift Reds into the top ten for the first time since the opening week of the season but Gregory is determined to ward off any complacency from his players.

Gregory said: “I saw Crewe about a month ago when they lost 3-0 to Notts County and it could have been worse. They were poor that night but they have really picked up since,.

“They have taken nine points from the last 12 and pushed Sheffield United all the way in their last game too. They are no mugs and it only goes to emphasise what I have always said about this division that there are no easy games.

“This will be our toughest game of the season without doubt because Crewe are in the bottom four and psychologically everybody will be looking at it as a certain home win.

“Our attitude has to be right because if we got out thinking it is going to be a foregone conclusion then we will lose. It is my job to make sure the boys are in the right frame of mind and don't think it is going to be a walk in the park.

“It is simple to get the players up for big games like against Wolves and Sheffield United. I don't have to do anything to motivate them on those occasions but there is a danger that sub-consciously people aren't fired up as much for games against the lesser teams.”
