Danny Warwick does not care whether he races on grass, sand or shale.

But he loves a well-prepared track on which to show his skills.

Which is one good reason why the 31-year-old racer is on board for Eastbourne Eagles' new adventure in the National League.

Warwick is Eagles' first confirmed rider for the 2015 season although others have been lined up and more signings are expected soon.

He has not ridden speedway since representing Isle of Wight in 2012 but has been busy in grasstrack racing.

His calendar also includes the British Sand Racing Championship in Guernsey, where he will aim for a fourth successive title next year.

He has a day job as a car mechanic in Poole but jumped at the chance of taking a mid-order role at Arlington.

Warwick said: "I never retired from speedway. I kept my bikes.

"Eastbourne approached me about riding for them.

"I've known a few of their riders over recent years, especially Cameron Woodward, and I know they have always been well looked after there.

"I know the track is always prepared well by Bob Dugard, although to be honest it's not one I've ridden that often.

"When I was at Isle of Wight you turned up and never really knew how bad it was going to be!

" I won't have that problem at Eastbourne."

The Islanders feature in a lengthy list of clubs Warwick has represented.

He has also turned out for Newport, Poole, Weymouth, Berwick, Somerset, Sittingbourne, Reading, Swindon and Bournemouth.

Most of his racing has come in the third tier and he is ready to pass on advice to younger team-mates.

But he admits he will be learning a few things himself as he tackles the tighter confines of Arlington.

Warwick has practised at his new home circuit recently and said: "Eastbourne is a bit of a weird one for me in that I've always enjoyed it but I think I'm known as a big track rider.

"Somerset is a big and fast track. Berwick and Isle of Wight as well.

"I'm looking forward to riding a smaller track. I know if I can get it right it will help me as a rider.

"The experience I've got in this league will come in handy for the young lads.

"Hopefully I can give them a bit of advice and help."

Meanwhile Eagles' outgoing skipper Cameron Woodward has secured his Elite League place for next season by joining Coventry Bees.
