Albion have extended the trial of former France captain and World Cup midfielder Alou Diarra.

The 33-year-old will play in the under-21s away to Charlton on Monday evening as the Seagulls continue to assess whether the ex-Liverpool and West Ham player deserves a deal.

Diarra, who has not played a competitive game for 11 months, has been with Albion all week.

Boss Sami Hyypia told The Argus: "He's trained with a personal trainer for a while now. When he came here we tested his fat percentage and it wasn't big. He looks fit but, as he has said himself, he's not match fit.

"That's why it is good that we can look at him for a bit longer. He'll get fitter and better rhythmn, because it's not easy to suddenly come into this situation.

"I know when I stopped playing and didn't train every day and then sometimes joined in training the ball comes very quickly and you are shocked, because you are not used to it that much any more.

"We'll assess the situation. I'd like to see him in a real game as well and then we are wiser to make a decision."

The under-21s fixture against Charlton is a rearranged fixture in the last 32 of the Premier League Cup at Ebbsfleet FC (7pm).
