Albion's Spanish servant Inigo Calderon has issued a bring on Arsenal rallying cry – after watching their biggest star at the World Cup.

Calderon paid his own way to be at the finals in Brazil last summer, staying in hostels and sharing bedrooms with supporters to watch global talents like the Gunners’ hot Chile striker Alexis Sanchez.

He was in the crowd as Sanchez helped topple his fellow countrymen. Now he could come face-to face with him on the pitch at the Amex in tomorrow’s fourth round showdown.

Calderon told The Argus: “Sanchez was playing in the Chile game. I was watching him last year as well at Barcelona and I think this year he is even better and quicker, so that’s not good news for us!

“It was a great experience, not just about the football but the atmosphere and the fans. I remember the Argentinian and Chile fans were singing for 24 hours.

“It was a bit complicated, because it was really expensive. I was in hostels, sharing bedrooms with fans. I wanted to enjoy it and be like a normal fan.”

Calderon also saw on TV Arsenal’s impressive 2-0 victory at Manchester City last Sunday.

He said: “You were watching one of the best games you can watch in Europe and then you are thinking, okay, we're going to play against them now.

"But it's really good. It gives you a chance to know the level they are, how far or not so far you are from them. I'd prefer to play against them than, with all respect, a League Two team."

Calderon could continue his partnership with fellow Spaniard Bruno against the Gunners. They are normally right-back rivals, but Calderon played on the right flank to combat Arsenal-linked Tyrone Mings in Albion's stirring 3-2 win against Ipswich at the Amex on Wednesday.

He said: "My debut in Spain was as a right-winger, playing in 40 degrees. It was warmer and more tiring than against Ipswich.

"I like to change positions. When we've played together we've done really well, against Leeds, Bolton and Wolves.

"I have a great understanding with Bruno. As soon as I see his eyes I know what he is going to do, so that makes it easier."
