Crawley boss Dean Saunders has played down the chances of a reunion with Michael Chopra.

Saunders will resume his efforts to sign a striker before Monday’s deadline after tonight’s game at Chesterfield but insists Chopra is not among his targets.

The Reds chief worked closely with Chopra when he was the striker coach at Newcastle United in 2004 but said “to be honest I haven’t looked at that one”.

The former Cardiff City and Sunderland forward – who has scored 105 goals in 347 league games – is a free agent having played for Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League which finished before Christmas.

The 31-year-old has stated his desire to play in England for the remainder of the season before returning to India, although he would prefer to join a Championship club rather than drop into League One.
