Sam Baldock has owned up to doubts about whether he made the right move joining Albion from League One promotion chasers Bristol City.

The £1.5 million striker turned left-winger has hit form since Chris Hughton took charge with goals in the last two games at home to Ipswich and Arsenal.

Baldock had reservations following one goal in his first 11 outings under former boss Sami Hyypia, at Bournemouth at the beginning of November.

He told The Argus: “I would be lying if I said I hadn’t, because I knew Bristol were going to do well this season.

“They have recruited well and they’ve got a good manager (Steven Cotterill). I thought they would be the runaway winners of that League.

“Having scored only one goal up to Christmas, I was a little bit worried, but I knew we had the players that could create opportunities for me.

“It was a matter of time before it turned out well for me in the end. I’m not saying it has done yet. I’ve got three, it’s hardly a bucket load.”

Baldock, poised to continue his ever-present starting record under Hughton at Blackpool today, is thriving out of position after being shaken by Hyypia’s pre-Christmas resignation.

“It is hard to see a manager go, the manager that signed you, but then in football it happens an awful lot,” he said. “It’s the same with the turnaround in players, you’ve got to adjust to seeing new faces and reacting to a new opportunity.

“I’m more in a solid bank of four off the left at the moment, just working hard, trying to support the full-back as much as I can and break forward with pace.”
