It was a lucrative Saturday for Lewes trainer Suzy Smith when shen saddled Invicta Lake (20/1) to victory in the Betfred Mobile Heroes Handicap Hurdle at Sandown.
Invicta Lake made full use of his light weight to claim a notable success for connections, winning them £28,000 in the process.
Mr Grey made a bold front-running bid but was joined on all sides at the last, with plenty in with chances.
But it was Tom O'Brien and Invicta Lake who came away the strongest - the horse not for passing in the testing conditions to beat El Dancer by four and a half lengths.
O'Brien said: "He's very genuine, I was able to get into it at the right time and when they came close at the last there was only one way he was going and that was forward."
Winning trainer Smith said: "I bought him in Ireland and he's related to Material World who came third in this race.
"He's from the same family and is going the same way now. Tom gave him a great ride.
"I would like to try and get him qualified for the Pertemps but whether we are high enough in the weights, I don't know.
"He stays three miles and two furlongs so we knew he'd stay.
"I was more concerned about how soft the ground was out there, but having a light weight helped.
"Paddy (Brennan) always said he would win a big one. We thought about switching to fences but he seems to have turned a corner this year. He was unlucky at Cheltenham when he fell last time and we felt he stood a really good chance."
