Nottingham Forest have announced Stuart Pearce has been sacked as manager - and is currently considering an offer of an alternative role at the club.

The club have appointed Dougie Freedman as his successor and he will be in charge when Forest play Albion next Saturday at the Amex.

Freedman, who played for the East Midlands club between 1998 and 2000, has previously managed in the Championship with Crystal Palace and Bolton.

Pearce, 52, returned to the club last summer on a two-year contract but a run of six defeats in seven games including Saturday's 1-0 loss to Millwall has ended his time in charge.

A statement on the Forest website said: "After long discussions between owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi and manager Stuart Pearce, the club has decided that Stuart will be relieved of his role as manager with immediate effect.

"Mr Al Hasawi has offered Stuart an alternative role at the club, which he is currently considering."
