Ronnie Davies believes he is hours from fulfilling a dream.

Davies told The Argus in July 2013 that he would love to go down in the record books as a trainer who steered a father and son to world glory.

He was half way there after guiding Brighton’s Chris Eubank senior to world-title successes at two weights.

And he was convinced even then that Chris Eubank Junior could one day help him realise that dream by following in his father’s footsteps.

Davies’ faith could be rewarded tomnight if junior beats Dmitry Chudinov on Frank Warren’s Risky Business show at the O2 Arena to become the new Interim WBA middleweight world champion.

And it will be hard to find a prouder man if that dream turns to reality.

Davies said: “I have my son, and my sister and brother and they would love it.

“They are big Eubank fans and have always followed me.

“It would be great for them and I would love it.”

Davies is taking nothing for granted, though.

He told The Argus: “I am on the brink of the dream now.

“I believe junior is quite capable of doing it but this is going to be a lot harder fight than a lot of people think. I rate Chudinov. But if junior gets by him, then he is on his way.

“Then he has got to stay there and that will be the hardest part when you have to see off all the contenders.

“I firmly believe he can get there and then he has to keep himself focused all the time.”

Davies is 68 years old but has no plans for retirement.

He said: “I shall keep going until I drop. I shall probably die on the box in the corner. I’m not ready to go yet and I am still a young man.

“I am loving it. Sometimes I find it hard and there is a lot of stress because it is a hard business.”
