DALE STEPHENS has revealed how much the goal that sent Albion on their way to victory meant to him.

Midfielder Stephens netted just three minutes after coming on as substitute to break the deadlock in an excellent 2-0 victory at home to leaders Derby County.

It was his first goal since returning last month from a long-term ankle injury which sidelined him for nine months.

Stephens told The Argus: “It has been a long time coming. I had been out for a long time. It is good to get back on the pitch and to get my first goal.

“I showed in my celebration that there was a lot of frustration let out. I was happy to get the goal.”

Stephens, making his sixth substitute appearance since returning to action, insists victory for the team was more important than personal glory.

He added: “It is a massive win, especially after the defeat at the weekend.

“It is important that we stay strong at home and that will prove vital for us in the run-in.”
