Sam Gargan headed a late winner to keep Whitehawk's play-off bid on track.

The former Albion striker secured a hard-fought 2-1 success for the ten-man hosts over Weston-super-Mare in Vanarama Conference south.

It was a nervy afternoon for Hawks but they showed character to dig out the result.

Tom Cadmore rose to head home a Scott Neilson corner in the 37th minute for the breakthrough Whitehawk craved.

Keeper Craig Ross had kept them on terms early on with a couple of fine saves against quite a lively Weston side.

But opposite number Luke Purnell matched him after the opening goal with stops from Sergio Torres and John-Paul Kissock as Hawks stepped up a gear.

Weston sent on striker Ollie Watkins, on loan from Exeter City, at the break and he took less than five minutes to level.

Watkins struck from close range after Dayle Grubb beat Jordan Rose on the byline and cut the ball back.

Jake Robinson twice went close to restoring the home lead.

But they had Pa Saikou Kujabi sent off for a foul as the last defender in the 78th minute.

Hawks, though, dug deep and Gargan headed home a corner delivered by fellow sub Sam Deering in the 87th minute.
