Dean Saunders felt Crawley were given a reality check after their three-match winning run came to an end.
The Reds slipped back into the League One relegation zone following a 2-1 defeat at home to Gillingham.
Saunders said: “We got what we deserved today, fair and square they beat us.
“They deserved to win even though we looked like we could win the game at 1-1.
“I thought that was the worst we have played since I have been here, including the games against Chesterfield and Rochdale – and Doncaster.
“That is the worst we have had for lack of efforts on goal. We didn’t have a shot really in the first half. Anthony Wordsworth had one from the edge of the box but not enough and I don’t think we had a corner.
“All round, it was not us but hopefully it is a reality check we need with seven games to go rather than three.”
