ALBION’S new loan signing Mustapha Carayol has left the door open for a permanent move.

Carayol is in talks with parent club Middlesbrough to extend his contract but has the chance to show he is an option for a wing vacancy during his six-match stint with Chris Hughton’s Seagulls.

Carayol, 26, told The Argus: “At the moment we are speaking over a contract. They want me to extend. I can’t really comment more on that. If it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t.

“I don’t like to close any doors. I am here to impress the manager, because you never know. I want to do the best for my club and repay the faith he has put in me, because I’ve not played any football.

“He’s taken the chance of bringing me in and trying to help the team, so I’ve got to try to repay it in any way I can.”

The highly-rated Carayol is aiming for game time with Albion after a year out with serious knee damage.

He said: “That’s the next hurdle for me. I’ve trained for over three months now. I’m excited to get back out there.

“I don’t think I’m looking forward to the blowing feeling after five minutes of running! People will be thinking I’m close to death but I’m looking forward to playing.

“I might be rusty so just bear with me for a game or two but hopefully I can put in a few performances and excite the fans and live up to a little bit of the hype that I’ve come here with.”
