Burgess Hill moved to within a point of the Ryman south title with another win tonight.

And even cautious boss Ian Chapman had to admit: “We are nearly there now.”

Hillians need just one draw from their five remaining games, starting at Carshalton on Saturday, to make sure of the crown, assuming second-placed Faversham win all their matches.

Lee Harding scored on 59 and 65 minutes to secure a 2-1 win at home to Ramsgate, who replied through Luke Wheatley in added time.

Chapman said: “We’re not quite there yet but I’m really pleased.

“It was a fantastic win for us. We could have made it more comfortable by taking our chances, then they scored at the end and the last couple of minutes were a bit panicky.

“But we’re getting closer. We want to win it on Saturday.”

Chapman praised the work of Callum Saunders in setting up both goals and said: “He was excellent in general play and with his set-pieces.”

John Philips scored in injury time as Sidlesham beat Roffey 1-0 in a Macron County League Division Three Cup semi-final at Steyning. They will play Ferring or Bosham in the final.
