Sussex supporters could get a first chance to see new pace duo Tymal Mills and Ajmal Shahzad in action at Hove today.

Sussex host Leeds/Bradford MCCU in a three-day clash at the County Ground (11am) with coach Mark Robinson keen to study his men in action.

Robinson said: “It’s about getting time in the middle and getting overs into the bowlers.

“The bowlers need to get the overs in their legs and used to the stiffness when they come back for a second and third spells.

“Also, you need to get that emotional feel that you don’t get in practice or in the nets.”

Matt Prior (Achilles), Jimmy Anyon (knee operation) and Lewis Hatchett (sore back) miss the game.

Sussex follow today’s match with a visit from Surrey next Tuesday for a two-day friendly. Kevin Pietersen has rejoined Surrey but Robinson says he has no idea if he will be on duty when the sides meet.

The Championship season starts for Sussex against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl a week on Sunday.

Sussex squad (v Leeds/Bradford): Brown, Cachopa, Finch, Hobden, Joyce, Magoffin, Mills, Nash, Shahzad, Wells, Wright, Yardy, Zaidi.
