Matt Machan completed an entertaining century before Worcestershire’s bowlers fought back after lunch at Hove.

Machan reached only his second Championship hundred from only 70 balls in style by launching Sachithra Senanayake for six.

The Scotland international went on to surpass his previous career best first class score of 119 before finally holing out for 135 off the bowling of Jack Shantry.

Shantry also had Ed Joyce caught in the slips for 48 as Sussex slipped from 153-1 at lunch to 300-6 at tea.

Craig Cachopa fell for just eight when he was well caught at second slip off the bowling of Charles Morris while Ben Brown had made 19 when he skied Gareth Andrew to point having scored 19.

Luke Wright made his third consecutive half century of the season – off 57 balls – but fell just before tea when he picked out the fielder on the mid-wicket boundary off Alex Gidman.
