Albion have offered player of the season Inigo Calderon and back-up goalkeeper Casper Ankergren new contracts.

But record buy Craig Mackail-Smith heads a list of five players being released.

Aaron Hughes, Vitalijs Maksimenko, Kemy Agustien and Paddy McCourt have also been told to look for other clubs.

The announcement of the retained list comes after Championship safety was clinched for the Seagulls by Millwall's defeat at Blackburn on Tuesday.

Calderon, 33, has been sweating on the chance to stretch his stay into a seventh season.

The defender-turned-midfielder said: "They want to keep me and I want to stay here because I've enjoyed a good relationship here so I'm really happy.

"It's been a really good week for me having won the player of the season award on Monday.

"It's something to be proud of because I have to be fighting every year as I get contracts year-by-year, so it shows I'm doing something right."

Fellow veteran Ankergren, 35, has been with Albion for five seasons, the last two as third-choice.

Striker Mackail-Smith, 31, bought from Peterborough in 2011 for £3.25 million, could make his final appearance at the Amex tomorrow against home town club Watford.
