Steve Brown has told his Lewes players they can ease final day nerves – by winning.

Anything less than victory away to already-relegated Bury Town could condemn the Rooks to relegation from Ryman premier.

It would require Peacehaven – the team immediately below them who are currently in the relegation zone – winning and could also depend on results for Canvey Island, Harrow Borough and VCD Athletic.

Lewes have lost four of their last five matches and have failed to score in each of those defeats.

Bury are already guaranteed finishing bottom after a miserable season.

Brown said: “It is a massive game for us. I said to the lads after our game last Saturday, the only consolation is it is in our own hands.

“At the moment we are not in the relegation zone. The onus is very much on Peacehaven to win their game but if we win we are safe.

“A draw for us would being the three other teams immediately above us into play but ultimately we just have to win.”

Brown is buoyed by the fact that he has a bigger pool of players to pick from than at any other time in the last four weeks.

Crawley Town loanee Emmett O’Connor is still not available due to a hamstring problem and Sam Cole (foot) is also missing but versatile defender Ollie Rowe is back and young midfielder Ronnie Conlon has recovered from the knock which forced him off in the defeat to Leatherhead last Saturday.

In addition, Henry Muggeridge trained this week after missing 15 games with a knee injury and could be added to the squad.

Brown added: “The last four weeks has been unprecedented in the players who have come in and out of the team but I will have to make a selection on Saturday which I haven’t had before.”
