Double Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is the first big name to confirm her entry for Eastbourne.

The Czech world No.4 will be trying to win the Aegon International for the first time at Devonshire Park from June 20 to 27.

Kvitova was Wimbledon champion in 2011 after losing in the Eastbourne final to Marion Bartoli.

The Sussex showpiece proved a useful warm-up again last year. She reached the Eastbourne quarter-finals before she was crowned Wimbledon champion for the second time.

Kvitova said: “I'm really excited to be returning to the Aegon International Eastbourne this summer. It is a special tournament for me and one I always enjoy playing.

"The crowds there really know their tennis and the intimate site is a great place for the fans to get close to the action. "From the first round, every match is tough which makes it the perfect warm-up event in the week before Wimbledon."

The extended grass court season, with a three week window for the first time between the French Open and Wimbledon, is expected to encourage other top players to Eastbourne, which is switching back to a women only event.
