Chris Eubank Junior’s next fight is expected to be a defence of his WBA Interim world middleweight belt.

Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed there will be no summer rematch with arch rival Billy Joe Saunders after talks reached deadlock.

And he has claimed Chris Eubank senior, who manages his son and also promotes him, has “ruined” what could have been a money-spinning WBO interim title fight at West Ham’s Upton Park home in late June or early July.

Warren told The Argus: “I have offered him two opponents for his next fight and I am waiting to hear whether he takes them or not. That would be a WBA Interim defence.

“I am contractually obliged to work with them and I am fulfilling my part of the contract.”

Saunders beat Eubank Jr last November in their first meeting when the European, British and Commonwealth belts were up for grabs.

The rivalry caught the public’s imagination and a second meeting had been close to being agreed after WBO No.1 Saunders’ hopes of a summer challenge for Andy Lee’s world title were wrecked when the champion picked up an injury.

But Saunders, who is managed and promoted by Warren, only agreed to a rematch as long as his position as mandatory challenger to Lee was protected – which means Eubank Jr would have to give up his WBA belt to gain a ranking with the WBO.

Eubank senior says they are not willing to vacate and Saunders will now fight in Manchester on July 11 in a warm-up fight in preparation for a clash with Lee when he is fit again.

Eubank Jr will not appear on the Manchester card, though.

Warren said: “It’s too late for the Manchester card and that’s full.”

And Warren is frustrated that a Saunders v Eubank II has been scuppered.

He added: “That fight could have gone ahead. He (Chris senior) has ruined that fight.

“Who cares what titles are on the line? It’s a good rematch.

“Billy Joe gets what he wants out of the fight, Eubank Jr gets his rematch and if he wins he becomes WBO interim champion and then he gets Andy Lee. What’s the downside? I can’t see one.

“And if he wants to fight Gennady Golovkin (WBA super champion), like they have said before, I could make that fight in a heartbeat.

“But also I think it is madness to fight Golovkin at the moment as he has a long way to go before he is up at that level.”
