Luke Wells fell just short of a century as wickets continued to tumble on the second morning of Sussex’s Championship clash with Warwickshire at Hove.

Wells was the ninth man out as Sussex were dismissed for 191 - having resumed on 140-5 – to give the hosts a slender 11 run first innings lead.

Warwickshire then lost Varun Chopra in only the third over as they reached lunch on 30-1, an advantage of 19 runs.

Ben Brown and Wells had made a solid start on a wicket showing further signs of variable before losing three wickets for just five runs.

Rikki Clarke had Ben Brown caught in the slips for 18 and then Chris Jordan caught behind for two with Ollie Robinson then being trapped lbw by Keith Barker for one.

Wells continued to show the kind of staying power every other batsman seemed to lack on this wicket as he moved into the 90s.

But the left-hander’s four hour stay at the crease came to an end when he was bowled by Jetan Patel to become the spinner’s fourth victim.

Matt Hobden was then trapped lbw by Chris Wright as Sussex were dismissed in the 60th over.

Steve Magoffin made the breakthrough for Sussex with his tenth ball as he pinned Varun Chopra on his crease.

With opener Ian Westwood unlikely to bat due to an injured thumb tailender Chris Wright came in at No.3 and survived with Ateeq Javid until lunch.
