Albion are planning a cutback on temporary fixes to the squad.

They want to reduce the number of loan signings they make next season, The Argus understands.

The Seagulls will concentrate on long-term loans and slash the dependency on emergency loans ahead of their abolition after 2015-16.

FIFA wants to scrap the emergency loans system, which allows Football League and Conference clubs to sign players for up to 93 days outside of the summer and winter transfer windows.

The world governing body originally intended to abolish the system this season but agreed earlier this year to give English clubs an extra year to prepare for the change.

Albion will still exploit season and half-season-long loans but are focusing more on developing players from the under-21s as cover options for the first team in preparation for the disappearance of the emergency loan safety net.

The number of players borrowed by the Seagulls in total this season spiralled to ten. Joao Teixeira (Liverpool), Joe Bennett (Aston Villa), Gary Gardner (Nottingham Forest) Leon Best (Blackburn) and Greg Halford (Nottingham Forest) were classified as long-term loans.

Halford was initially signed on an emergency basis before Christmas. Ali Al-Habsi (Wigan), Elliott Bennett (Norwich), Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Emmaneul Ledesma (Middlesbrough) and Mustapha Carayol (Middlesbrough) were also emergency loans.

Albion dug themselves into a hole with six simultaneous loan signings, one more than the maximum allowed in a matchday squad.

They have borrowed 27 players throughout the Amex era, eight of them in 2011-12, six in 2013-14 and only three in their most successful season in 2012-13.
