Albion's new talisman Tomer Hemed has vowed to make his mark in English football by scoring and making goals.

The Seagulls bought the Israeli international No.9 last night for an undisclosed seven-figure fee from Almeria, the Spanish club that also sold former goal hero Leo Ulloa to them.

Hemed, 28, on target ten times in 15 outings for his country, said: "Usually my goals are from inside the box but the people that know me know that I can do good things far from the area and create goals for others. I believe that this season all the people that don’t know about me will see good things."

Hemed, who had a year left on his contract in Spain, has penned a three-year deal with Albion after a glowing report on the club from midfielder and international team-mate Beram Kayal.

He said: "Beram is a very good friend of mine, we play together in the national team and it will be very nice for me to play with him again at Brighton.

"We spoke and he told me very good things about the club and the place, and I know that the club really wants to be promoted to the Premier League. I am really excited to come here and give 100 per cent in every game and try to achieve promotion."

Hemed, strong in the air and with his back to goal, scored eight times in 26 appearances for relegated Almeria last season and 27 in 72 starts in total in La Liga, Spain's top flight, over three seasons after an earlier spell with Mallorca.

The ex-Maccabi Haifa marksman was coincidentally being tracked by Albion manager Chris Hughton when he was in charge at Norwich and by the Seagulls' recruitment team under Paul Winstanley since last winter.

Hughton said: "Tomer is six-foot tall, strong, and he has played much of his football in La Liga and at international level. He is very capable of scoring goals.

"It's another significant signing for us. I have no doubts about Tomer adapting to Championship football and improving our attacking threat."

Hemed is Albion's second signing in as many days following the capture of versatile full-back Liam Rosenior on a free transfer after he was released by Hull.

It is unclear whether Hemed, linked earlier in his career with Liverpool, will report back with the rest of the squad from their summer break on Friday or be given more time after his post-season involvement with Israel.
