Sussex stormed to the top of the table after recording a fourth successive win in the NatWest T20 Blast.

The Sharks cruised to an emphatic seven-wicket victory against Middlesex at Lord’s to continue their impressive form on the road.

Tymall Mills claimed career-best figures of 4-22 to help restrict Middlesex to 133-8 before Luke Wright top scored with 47 to steer Sussex home with 28 balls to spare.

The result saw Sussex replace Essex at the top of the south group and they can take a big step closer to the quarter-finals when they take on Kent at Hove tomorrow night.

Mills got Sussex off to the perfect start after skipper Luke Wright had won the toss and elected to bowl first on a glued wicket.

The left-armer picked up the wickets of Dawid Malan and Nick Compton to leave Middlesex struggling on 12-2.

Paul Stirling – who had put on 187 with Malan for the first wicket in Middlesex’s victory at Hove – hinted at another big innings as he smashed Mills for a big six but fell for 23 when he top edged Mike Yardy to short fine leg.

John Simpson and Eoin Morgan set about repairing the damage with a partnership of 39 from 31 balls.

But the recovery stalled when Simpson hit a long hop from Matt Machan to deep midwicket where Harry Finch took an excellent low catch.

Middlesex’s hopes of getting close to 150 were dealt a further blow when Morgan was caught behind off Stefan Piolet for 27.

Mills returned to ensure there was no big finish for Middlesex as he picked up the wickets of Andy Balbirnie and Mitchell McClenaghan in the final over.

Sussex made short work of chasing down an underpar total as they got to grips much better with the wicket than Middlesex had.

Chris Nash hit the opening two balls for four before being pinned lbw by Mitchell McClenaghan for 13.

Machan and Wright then put on 75 from 52 balls to put Sussex in total control until McClenaghan returned to snare both of them.

The New Zealand quick denied Wright a half century when the Sharks skipper top edged a pull having scored 47 from 33 balls.

McClenaghan picked up the wicket of Machan with his next ball, hitting the left-hander painfully behind his pad in front of the stumps having made 30.

McClenaghan finished with figures of 3-24 but there was no one to back him up as Sussex cantered home.

Craig Cachopa hit Ravi Patel for successive sixes to finish unbeaten on 24 while George Bailey was 15 not out.
