Lee Barnard has been told to prove he deserves a contract at Crawley Town.

The former Tottenham and Southampton striker will be one of a number of trialists hoping to impress Reds boss Mark Yates in their opening pre-season friendly at Burgess Hill tomorrow.

Barnard left Southend at the end of last season following their promotion to League One and has been training with Crawley for the last two weeks.

Former Wales under-19 goalkeeper Callum Preston will also feature as he bids to win a deal following his release by Birmingham City but ex-Eastbourne Borough stopper Ross Worner is no longer an option after signing for Sutton United.

Yates said: “Lee has a proven track record and has done very well over the last few weeks. We want to take a look at him in a game but we are not going to make a decision based solely on 45 minutes.

“Callum is only a young lad but he has done great. We’ll continue to have a look at him while he is having a look at us as well.

“We’ll have a few other trialists playing so it will be good to see how they get on in a game situation.”
