BRUNO has revealed his pride at being regarded as captaincy material by Albion boss Chris Hughton.

The Spanish defender has been leading the Seagulls during pre-season, with regular skipper Gordon Greer injured and fellow countryman Inigo Calderon unlikely to be a regular.

Bruno told The Argus: “It’s an honour, of course, for me, but the most important thing is that everyone needs to feel like a captain inside the dressing room.

“Everyone is important and we need to work for each other but for me it is nice.”

The newly-bearded Bruno gathered the players together in a huddle to deliver a passionate speech prior to Sunday’s 1-0 friendly defeat at Aberdeen.

The experienced right-back said: “When you play in those kind of games the atmosphere is a little bit cold and you need to be ready for the game.

“You need to shout a little bit to the players, just for everyone to be ready. I think it worked because we started the game well.”

Greer is on the brink of returning to action as Albion prepare for their final two friendlies at Gillingham tomorrow night and against Sevilla at the Amex on Sunday (4pm).

The Scottish international centre-half has been sidelined by an adductor injury since the early minutes of the opening friendly against Swiss minnows FC Meyrin in Geneva over a fortnight ago.
