Portugal goalkeeper Beto admits Sevilla players will be competing for first team places when they show their skills at the Amex.

And he will include himself in that if he gets the nod to face Albion.

The Europa League winners are on their way to play Watford tomorrow and the Seagulls on Sunday.

Beto admits the injury which cost him his place to Sergio Rico last term was tough to take.

Especially as the damage caused in a clash with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema meant he was still out of the side when they beat Dnipro in the European final.

But he is targeting regular action in the Liga BBVA and the Champions League.

Beto told theargus.co.uk: “I’m fully recovered from the shoulder injury that cost me two or three months last year.

“Thank God I’m recovered. I played the last game of last season with Portugal against Italy and I’ve felt perfect in pre-season.

“It was the worst injury I’ve had in my career.

“Three months is not a lot for a footballer. There are injuries that keep you out longer.

“But now I’m facing tough competition to get into the team – and that will be good for the team.

“It’s good for the coach because we have 23 or 24 players competing for one team.

“The coach will select the best side he can. It’s very difficult but that’s his job.”

Sevilla split their squad for games against Werder Bremen and Reims last weekend and Beto reckons that underlines the strength in depth boss Unai Emery has at his disposal.

He is convinced Albion fans will see a strong opposing team at the Amex, no matter how selection works.

The former Porto keeper added: "We haven't been told who will play when.

“I don’t know if we are stronger this season than last because only results will tell us that.

“The president and staff have tried to make the best team they could for this season.

“But we will be a very strong team this year.

“We still have a lot of hard work to do. We have brought in new players who need to settle into the group and understand how Sevilla play.”

Sevilla kick off their competitive season against Barcelona in the European Super Cup on August 11.

But their league programme does not start until the weekend of August 22 and 23.
