Albion have brought former goal hero Bobby Zamora back to the club in a hastily arranged deal.

The veteran striker and fans' favourite rejoined the Seagulls last night on a one-year contract after the club decided on Friday to open negotiations with him and his agent.

Dicussions continued over the weekend and Zamora, 34, is back with the club where he made his name after passing a medical.

He was a free agent after parting company with relegated Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season.

Zamora said: "I'm pleased to be back. I remember saying that one day I wanted to come back and now I'm here so I'm pleased to sign on the dotted line and to be back where I started.

"Just walking into the training ground and seeing the whole building and all the pitches is mind blowing and seeing where the club is since 15 years ago.

"I was always keeping an eye out for them, speaking to whoever was here at the time. Nathan Jones, who is first team coach here and doing very well, used to keep in touch with me."

Boss Chris Hughton, familiar with Zamora from their time together at Spurs, is delighted with the deal but says the search goes on for more attacking additions to the squad.

Hughton said: "He needs absolutely no introduction here. The Albion fans know everything about him, from his achievements in a Brighton shirt and right through his time with Spurs, West Ham, Fulham and QPR.

"I also know Bobby well, having worked with him during his time at Spurs, and he is a great professional. I know he will bring plenty of experience to the team, having played Premier League, European and international football.

"He will also bring a lot in terms of character to the club and to the dressing room - but most importantly, having played more than 30 times for QPR last season, he brings top quality to our offensive options.

"We still have work to do in terms of adding to the squad, including those offensive options, in terms of creating and scoring goals."

Zamora's reputation as a high class front man was launched with Albion 15 years ago from the obscurity of Bristol Rovers' reserves.

He was signed permanently from Rovers for £100,000 in the summer of 2000, having impressed during a prolific loan spell the previous season.

After helping the Seagulls win back-to-back League Two and League One titles in 2001 and 2002, he eventually moved to Spurs for £1.5 million.

Zamora was promoted from the Championship with West Ham, helped Fulham reach the Europa League Final in 2010 and was called up to the England squad during Fabio Capello's time in charge, only for injury to rule him out of the World Cup Finals.
