Crawley Town went down 2-0 away to League One Peterborough in the first round of the Capital One Cup this evening.

Reds handed a debut to Belgian left-back Bryan van den Bogaert, whose international clearance finally came through earlier in the day.

The former Antwerp player was one of four changes from the side that drew at Oxford in their League Two opener on Saturday, with Simon Walton ruled out by concussion while Lee Barnard, Gwion Edwards and Jon Ashton dropped to the bench.

In came Lewis Young, Matt Harrold and Shamir Fenelon for his debut.

Crawley got off to the worst possible start as they fell behind inside three minutes.

Harry Anderson got away down the wing and his cross found Conor Washington who tapped it past Freddie Woodman.

After a quiet period where Crawley gained some composure, they were grateful to two saves from Woodman to stop the hosts from doubling their lead.

The Reds finished the first half well, with Matt Harrold hitting a post, but their efforts were undone by a second goal for Posh four minutes into the second half.

Again, Anderson was the creator, skipping past a number of challenges before playing in Marcus Maddison to fire low into the bottom right-hand corner.

Substitute Gwion Edwards went close to halving the arrears 17 minutes from time with a shot which went narrowly past a post from a tight angle.
