Nathan Collier got the only goal as Eastbourne Borough made it four wins on the trot to move into the National League south play-off places.
Collier netted from Gavin McCallum’s cross to earn Borough a 1-0 win at home to Maidstone United in front of a crowd of 1,011.
Whitehawk, though, were left frustrated after conceding a two-goal lead for the third time this season.
They led 2-0 at Ebbsfleet through David Ijaha and Sam Deering, who also missed a penalty, but the hosts fought back in the second half.

Sean Ray scored twice and fellow centre-back Jerome Smith got the other as Hastings United won 3-0 at Cray Valley PM.
But Peacehaven lost 3-0 at Herne Bay, Three Bridges went down 1-0 at home to Cray Wanderers and East Grinstead crashed 7-1 at Molesey.
Of the Southern Combination League sides left in the competition, Pagham were the only winners as they beat Corinthian-Casuals 3-0 thanks to a Dan Simmonds hat-trick.
Horsham, Eastbourne Town and Shoreham earned replays – all drawing 1-1 – while Eastbourne United against Arundel also ended 1-0.
